Who we Are

La Vispera is a collective between Kelly Jimenez and Alejandro Franco, both Colombian who met in Miami, their work is dynamic and it can be found in the form of installation, stop motion animation and set design, lately they have been fully focused on the making of Stained glass windows made out of single used plastic.
In their individual practice they always use found materials that are usually resting out of purpose. Due to their affinity and desire to create works that approach the ecological crisis , they embarked on a journey of making a project to raised awareness on the careless use of single-use plastic, they don’t normally use plastic because it’s a material that evokes the aspects that are wrong about us humans, plastic bags are one way we are depleting our oil supply, 8% - 10% of our oil supply goes to making of plastic, even though its already  out of control petrochemical companies produce thousands of single used plastic from fossil fuels creating a material that takes many years to decompose flooding our lives and oceans.
In 2018 they moved to St Louis, MO with just a few of their possessions, without any studio equipment or art supplies, they started to notice that packaging material of all sorts was abundant and that it was going in the garbage in the prime of its life. they decided to give this new significance to something so transient and problematic.

Currently, they are based in Pittsburgh where they continue to create and exhibit their works in different places around the United States.

By spending all this time and effort to recover an undervalued material through labour, we hope to make an allegory of the efforts we need to make to preserve a healthy ecosystem, one where we can feel hopeful and proud, an essential desire so often taken for granted.
